West Ham United work to sign Spezia centre-back Jakub Kiwior

West Ham United are working to sign Spezia central defender Jakub Kiwior as David Moyes looks to strengthen his defence further according to 90min.

90min reported on Wednesday 17 August that the Hammers are in talks with the Serie A side over a potential move for the 22-year-old Polish international.

It’s understood that the club hierarchy intend to keep spending with defensive reinforcements now Moyes’ top priority.

Versatile option

Kiwior featured 34 times for the Serie A side in the 2021/22 campaign and can play a variety of positions across defence and midfield.

A versatile option such as Kiwior could be what West Ham need to polish off their busy summer transfer window.

Moyes has been desperate to add a left-back and another central midfielder to his squad.

The Sun’s Jack Rosser reported via his personal Twitter account (17 August) that the Hammers are now set to walk away from a move for Chelsea left-back Emerson.

This could well open the door for Kiwior to be the man the West Ham boss turns to in order to solve his left-back and midfield problems.

The Polish international looks the ideal player to come to the London Stadium to ease some of Moyes’ transfer headaches.

He is left-footed, which means he can slot in the left-back role if needed.

Aaron Cresswell has been a dependable player for Moyes over a number of seasons but is entering the twighlight of his career with his current deal now in its final year.

Kiwior could well prove to be an astute long-term signing for Moyes should he make the move to the London Stadium.

It promises to be a hectic couple of weeks at the London Stadium as the window edges towards its close.
