West Ham United target Jakub Kiwior close to joining AC Milan

Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior is close to joining AC Milan after West Ham United pushed for a summer transfer according to Footmercato.

90min reported (17 August) that the Hammers were working towards a deal with Spezia for the 22-year-old Polish international.

However, it has been reported by Footmercato (21 September) that AC Mian are close to a “total agreement” for the defender.

It’s understood that the fee will an estimated £15.8million and that personal terms are nearly agreed upon after he declined West Ham in the summer.

Don’t lose sleep

West Ham were linked with a host of defenders over the summer with Kiwior certainly being one of the more unlikely options that David Moyes wanted. The arrival of Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd has certainly bolstered his defensive options.

Kiwior would’ve been a progressive signing in the long-term but ultimately, Moyes’ recruits will provide competition for places for the here and now. If Craig Dawson does leave the club in January it would be sensible to assume that Moyes will target another central defender.

A backup option will be the likely replacement for the 32-year-old who has indicated that he would like to leave the club and move closer to his family in Manchester.

Another ball-playing defender would also be useful for Moyes come January. It would allow him to operate a three-at-the-back system at times and also provide more competition for his current back line.

What is certain is that the Scot will be eager for Aguerd to return from his untimely preseason injury and pick up from where he left off in a Claret and Blue jersey.
