West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta has sent Real Madrid ace Vinicius Jr a new message after his Ballon d’Or snub.
The Brazilian international and the rest of his Real Madrid teammates opted not to travel to Tuesday (29 October) night’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, with Rodri ultimately winning the award ahead of the Madrid superstar.
Multiple different players and pundits have come out in support of Vinicius, including Hammers ace and fellow Brazil international Paqueta who was quick to suggest he should have won ahead of the Manchester City man.
Writing on Instagram on Monday (28 October) he said: “Just so you know that I’m proud to say that I’m your friend, that I admire you and root for you more than any victory of mine!
“I admire your story and the person you’ve become! You’re the best! Even if they say otherwise! I love you and we’re closer than ever! Always moving forward!!!”
What has happened to Lucas Paqueta at West Ham and the London Stadium?
The entire fallout from this entire Ballon d’Or saga has been completely and utterly ridiculous, especially when Rodri is more than deserving of this award.
West Ham fans will know that the Spanish midfielder has been one of the most consistent and impressive players in the Premier League for years now and his displays in the Euros for Spain will have only helped his case.
From an Irons’ perspective, it will be frustrating to see Paqueta putting this much effort into a social media post when he has looked miles off of the pace in a claret and blue shirt under Julen Lopetegui this term.
The attacking midfielder has been nowhere near his best and has often been a passenger under the new Hammers boss. While he may be distracted by his recent issues off of the pitch, fans and pundits alike expect more from the Brazilian.
Hopefully, he will rediscover his best form sooner rather than later as the Irons look like a much better side when he is firing on all cylinders.
His creativity and ability to produce a moment of magic in the final third have been crucial at the London Stadium over the last few years.
