West Ham United make free agent transfer decision as Jesse Lingard continues Rush Green training

West Ham have opted to keep their squad strength at 24 should Jesse Lingard not be handed a full-time contract, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable news outlet for all things in and around the London Stadium reported on Tuesday (19 September) that the Hammers feel that they have an adequate squad in terms of numbers.

Lingard, who has been training at Rush Green has failed to make a sufficient impression thus far with David Moyes being the one to make the decision on him.

Makes sense

Moyes would not want someone not good enough to fight for a spot in the playing eleven, even if he’s coming on a free transfer.

Lingard would demand decent wages and a signing on fee and if they do not need him, West Ham will feel it is a waste of money.

What they need is another striker as Michail Antonio is injury prone and is not the most consistent of number nines for the Hammers.

Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen can play as makeshift strikers but it’s certainly not the same as having an out-and-out striker.

Perhaps instead of Lingard, had there been a striker training with the club, Moyes would’ve been more tempted to sign him.

It remains to be seen if they do end up bringing in a first-team striker in January as Gianluca Scamacca is still to be replaced.
