Gareth Southgate sends Jarrod Bowen West Ham United message ahead of Euro 2024

Gareth Southgate has had a conversation with West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen along the same lines he did with Spurs’ James Maddison while he was at Leicester City, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS Sports journalist told Give Me Sport on Saturday (16 September) that Southgate’s assured Bowen he does not need to leave the London Stadium in order to be in contention for the Three Lions.

Maddison was told the same thing before he joined Tottenham Hotspur but the Foxes’ relegation finally saw him leaving the King Power Stadium.

Jacobs said, “From what I’m told, Bowen has been told by Southgate that staying at West Ham won’t impact anything as far as Euro 2024 is concerned.

“Maddison was told that when he was at Leicester. Even though he made the England squad for the last World Cup, although he was injured and that might have been a key factor, his opportunities were still more limited at Leicester compared to now going forward at Spurs. That might be at the back of Bowen’s mind as well.”

Bowen does not seem to be in an immediate hurry to leave the London Stadium but multiple factors can change his mind.

For starters, he will be aware that Maddison’s only now been called up to the Three Lions squad and barely featured for them during his Leicester days.

Unless the Hammers become a Europa League or Champions League team, Bowen knows that the eyeballs are going to be limited.

Like Declan Rice, even he might have ambitions of playing for a bigger club and could look to leave next summer.

If a club like Liverpool comes calling and they want him to replace Mo Salah, there’s a very good chance that he tells the Hammers he wants out.

Hopefully, Southgate’s conversation has given him the assurances he needs but that cannot be the case forever.

In other West Ham news, an ultimate transfer decision has been made by the Hammers on Jesse Lingard amid a recent development.
