West Ham United: Journalist shares what he was told about Thomas Tuchel replacing David Moyes
Thomas Tuchel is more the type of profile West Ham would be looking to appoint to replace David Moyes than Rob Edwards, according to Dean Jones.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (21 February), the former Eurosport journalist said he asked someone recently who has good connections at the London Stadium about whether the Luton Town manager would be of interest and that was “dismissed out of hand”.
But when he mentioned Tuchel, who is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season, he added that he got a “much more positive response”.
“I do think that West Ham would have an eye on Tuchel,” said Jones. “It’s more about the profile of manager that they’re going to look for as they move beyond David Moyes.
“They are going to continue to look for somebody who has got a good reputation in the game and also from a very high, established standpoint.
“One of the ideas that I threw to someone recently, who has got good connections to West Ham, was whether they might be interested in somebody like Rob Edwards at Luton if that was to become a possibility at the end of the season.
“That was dismissed out of hand because he just hasn’t got the right profile for that job. When I mentioned somebody like Tuchel, I got a much more positive response.”
Thomas Tuchel could be ideal fit for West Ham
There is no doubt that Edwards has done an excellent job at Luton, but it perhaps would be too much of a risk to appoint him at West Ham at the moment.
If the Hammers decide to move on from Moyes, then they are going to bring someone in with pedigree that could take them to the next level.
Tuchel certainly fits that bill following his work with Chelsea, where he lifted the Champions League in 2021, as well as the jobs he’s done with other big clubs across Europe.

The appointment of the German would certainly excite the Irons fans, but there is a long way to go before that happens as Moyes’ future is still up in the air.
There are also other names in the mix, with Graham Potter and Julen Lopetegui believed to be on the shortlist of potential candidates at the London Stadium.
In other West Ham news, Troy Deeney has shared a “serious” Moyes sack verdict as he made a £200million prediction.
