West Ham United: Danny Murphy shares David Moyes sack verdict on air in Tottenham admission
West Ham United are now in a position financially to part ways with David Moyes and appoint a more attacking and exciting manager, according to Danny Murphy.
The Hammers boss, whose current contract at the London Stadium expires at the end of the season, has come under increased pressure from supporters in recent months for his side’s poor performances and results.
While Murphy has admitted he is a fan of the Scotsman, he believes the Irons could take the same risk that Tottenham did when appointing Ange Postecoglou and sacrifice European football for a more entertaining style of play.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (4 April, 10:38) he said: “I like David, I really do and I think he’s done a great job everywhere he’s been.
“The reality is, when you look at Tottenham as a yardstick of such a change of style and a bit more risk and what it’s bringing to them, I think West Ham fans look at something like that and think we’ll take the risk of maybe not finishing six or seventh, but we watch that every week.
“I do think West Ham have the capability with the players that they’ve been signing, the size of the crowds and finances behind them that they can switch and go the other way a bit.
“A lot of West Ham fans I hear, it’s not when they play Arsenal or Manchester City, they understand sometimes you have to be second best, it’s when they’re playing at home to Bournemouth.
“When you watch Tottenham now and speak to fans they’re not as obsessed with results as they were in previous seasons because they love what they’re seeing, it’s chaotic.”
Will West Ham United sack David Moyes at the London Stadium?
Hammers supporters have been clear in their message that they want to be entertained by their side and under Moyes that just hasn’t been possible in the majority of games because of his defensive style of football.
While that set-up has brought success and helped the Irons lift European silverware and finish in the top half of the Premier League consistently, it isn’t easy on the eye and the current crop of players are capable of much more.

To take that next step and really start to challenge at the top of the table, the Irons may need to make a change in the dugout and appoint a manager capable of being more adaptable or attacking in his style, like Postecoglou.
Whether or not the Irons will be brave enough to take that risk this summer remains to be seen, but there have been some clear indications that Moyes may extend his contract at the end of the season and Murphy may be proven wrong.
