West Ham United board split on David Moyes replacement as two frontrunners named

Paulo Fonseca and Julen Lopetegui are the two frontrunners to replace David Moyes at West Ham United this summer but the board are split on them, according to iNews.

Writing on their website (30 April), the news outlet report that the Hammers are yet to make a final decision on Moyes’ future with a meeting scheduled for after the final game of the season with Manchester City.

But the expectation is that he will leave the club once his contract expires and while Lopetegui and Fonseca are seen as the top candidates for the role, there is a split in the boardroom about which direction to go in while they also face competition from AC Milan for both coaches.

West Ham United board must make a decision quickly

While it seems as though the club are simply holding out on making their decision about Moyes’ future public, there is clear indecisiveness when it comes to his replacement.

There are plenty of options out there this summer, either in a job or currently unemployed, but there are also going to be a host of clubs looking for new managers too.

Add to that how hectic the summer transfer window is expected to be with at least five players set to leave the London Stadium and replacements needed, a decision needs to be made quickly by the board as to what they want to do.

It suits nobody if the club bring in Lopetegui, for example, but sign players beforehand that don’t suit his style, or vice-versa with Fonseca, and so the quicker someone is on board the quicker plans can start to be made for the new season.

But with AC Milan sniffing around too they need to be quick, otherwise they could make a decision and it be too late at that point which sends them back to the drawing board.
