West Ham are reportedly prepared to let Tomas Soucek leave the club with Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse identified as his replacement.

As reported by Claret and Hugh on Wednesday [25 May], the Hammers are “very keen” on a move for the 27-year-old with Soucek potentially making way.

The Southampton man has 10 goals in what has been a very productive season for the midfielder.

David Moyes looks set to overhaul his squad this summer after missing out on the Europa League with Soucek looking like one of the first casualties.

Cheaper options available

With Moyes planning a large squad overhaul this summer, a move for Ward-Prowse perhaps seems a bit foolish.

The England international has recently signed a new deal at with Southampton keeping him at the club until 2026.

Considering the length of his current deal and the price the Saints will want for his services means Moyes will be better off looking for value in centre midfield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kalvin Phillips are nearer the end of their contracts and would provide far better value for Moyes in his squad revamp

Ward-Prowse can take a good free-kick, but does he offer much more in open play than the potential other targets that are currently available?

Regardless of whether Ward-Prowse is a viable target for West Ham, it will please the Irons faithful that they are being linked with players of his calibre.

The Hammers are certainly testing the waters when it comes to transfers at present.

They must start making their moves soon.
