West Ham star Pablo Fornals slated by Karen Carney

West Ham lost their first game of the season in a crazy game at home against Manchester United.

However, they could have won had Pablo Fornals finished a presentable opportunity in the second half, and BBC pundit Karen Carney believes he should have done better.

Tomas Soucek went up for a header with Harry Maguire, and the ball landed at the Spaniard’s feet, but he drilled his effort wide of the post, with David de Gea stranded.

Carney said on BBC 5 Live: “That was set for Fornals so nicely. He is unmarked; he takes the first touch and sets it up. He kicks right across it, not through it, and De Gea is thankful it went wide because I’m not sure he would have got there.”

Huge chance for Fornals.

This turned out to be a huge moment in the game as Jesse Lingard grabbed a late winner on his return to the London Stadium.

Mark Noble then missed a penalty right at the death to snatch a point for the Irons.

So, Fornals’ miss was certainly not the worst moment in the game, but we still feel it was important.

Had the Hammers taken the lead there, then they could have gone on to win the match.

However, you can’t criticise Fornals too much because he has had a fine start to the season and on another day, he lashes that strike into the far corner rather than past the post.

It was just one of those days for the Irons, but there were plenty of positives to take from their display, and they went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the Premier League and were unlucky to lose.

In other West Ham news, Carney was blown away by one Irons ace during the Manchester United match.
