West Ham players to receive £10million shared bonus if they qualify for CL

West Ham United’s players could be set for a big payday if they qualify for the Champions League, according to The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas.

Writing on The Athletic website, Thomas reports that the squad “will share a sum in the region of £8-10 million” if they qualify for Europe’s elite club competition.

The Hammers moved back into the top four of the Premier League on Wednesday (12 January) after comfortably brushing aside bottom club Norwich City.

A Jarrod Bowen brace secured the 2-0 win to displace Arsenal in the top four and David Moyes has the belief that his team can go on to keep that position.

“We’re more experienced and we’ve got great hunger,” said Moyes as quoted by The Athletic. “For long parts of last season, we only started believing around January/February time that we had a real chance of European football.

“From the start of this season, we believed we can. I’ve given the players the challenge that I want to see if they can make the two points up that we didn’t get for the Champions League last year.”

Why not?

We’re over halfway through this 2021-22 season so by now we have a good grasp of roughly where each team will finish the campaign come May.

And West Ham are fourth on merit. There’s no flukeiness in how Moyes’ team has got to this position.

The Irons really are the fourth-best team in the country at the moment and despite teams below them having games in hand, they are still well in the race for Champions League football.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur look like their most likely challengers with both close enough to leapfrog the Hammers if they win all of their games in hand but there are still enough games for West Ham to jump back ahead of them.

Especially if they keep up the kind of form they’ve been in recently having recovered from a December blip to record three successive Premier League wins.

The individual form of star players Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice and Michail Antonio needs to be maintained too along with injured defenders Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna returning to fitness.

In other West Ham news, Ally McCoist was wowed by one particular Hammer in the Norwich win.
