West Ham manager David Moyes reveals surprise at Lingard snub
West Ham manager David Moyes has revealed his surprise at Jesse Lingard’s West Ham snub, claiming the club made him a great offer.
The former West Ham midfielder chose to sign a one-year deal at Nottingham Forest despite having an offer from the Irons on the table.
A report from the Daily Mail has detailed how Moyes revealed the club made Lingard ‘a really good offer’ and was ‘surprised’ by the former Manchester United forward’s snub.
The report said: “‘I was surprised because I thought Jesse, in the end, would come here and I’ve got to say the club made him a really good offer.
“You couldn’t turn around and say David Sullivan and the owners didn’t do everything they could to get him. They certainly did.
‘I’ve got to say the club have tried to get lots of players but for different reasons, we’ve not been able to get them.’
Lingard snub?
The England international’s decision to sign with the newly-promoted did come as a shock to many as his stint with the Hammers was so successful.
During his six-month stay at the London Stadium, Lingard found a home and had fans that adored him and supported him.
In London, Lingard began to look like himself again, regaining his old form, re-finding his goalscoring touch, and getting his swagger back.
His phenomenal performances helped West Ham qualify for Europe that summer as well as helping him get back into the England team later that year.
There seemed to be a mutual relationship between the club and Lingard helping each other get to where they need to be.
However, West Ham have made some strong signing this window, and Lingard has now found a new set of fans to adhere himself to, and life goes on.
In other West Ham news, the club have confirmed the signing of Maxwel Cornet from Burnley.
