West Ham defender Issa Diop set to return v Sevilla

West Ham are reportedly set to welcome the services of defender Issa Diop for their Europa League clash against Sevilla on Thursday.

According to Claret and Hugh, the Frenchman has impressed lately and is on the cusp of returning to the playing eleven.

David Moyes could tweak his formation and set up a five-man defence to make way for the 25-year-old.

Right move?

Having defensive solidity against a side like Sevilla may be the right thing to do for the Hammers.

They have looked more organised and stable when they’ve got three centre-backs in the team.

This could also give the full-backs who’ll be playing as wing-backs, the licence to burst forward without having to bother about tracking back.

It remains to be seen how Moyes sets up his team against Sevilla and whether or not he looks to stifle them in tight spaces or decides to let them take the game to the Hammers.

Diop’s physicality may be needed against the La Liga title contenders so it makes sense to have him in the side.

He’s also admired by Jose Mourinho a great deal who’s praised him in the past.

He said, “Congratulations to the scout who found Diop, a monster who dictated everything.”

In other West Ham news, the club want to sign a ‘Brilliant’ Chelsea player who will tick a major box for David Moyes in the summer.
