Trevor Sinclar wants West Ham to hand Armstrong Oko-Flex debut v Manchester City
Trevor Sinclair wants to see West Ham hand a debut to Armstrong Oko-Flex against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Oko-Flex, 19, joined the Irons from Celtic during the summer, and has yet to feature for the first team under David Moyes.
However, he has shone for the Under-23 side, scoring seven goals in the Premier League 2 so far this season, including a hat-trick against Manchester United on Saturday.
Speaking on talkSPORT [27/10/21] ahead of tonight’s League Cup clash against Manchester City at the London Stadium, ex-Irons midfielder Sinclair has called on Moyes to hand an opportunity to the teenager.
“I’d like to see a player called Armstrong Okoflex who has been playing really well for the Under 23s at West Ham,” Sinclair said.
“Irish boy, he’s only 19 years old, [he’s a] real athlete, got a fantastic eye for goal. I’d like to see him get an opportunity, even if it’s on the bench and get him on for 20 minutes in these kinds of tournaments.”
Time to test him out?
Oko-Flex can’t be doing much more at Under-23 level to prove that he deserves a chance for the senior side.
He has helped to inspire the young Irons to second in the Premier League 2 table, behind only Manchester City.
The Irishman has scored more than double any of his teammates (Thierry Nevers and Jamal Baptiste are joint-second with three goals).
However, given the wealth of options Moyes has at his disposal, Oko-Flex may miss out on tonight’s game.
The likes of Manuel Lanzini, Nikola Vlasic and Andriy Yarmolenko will all be looking for starts against the Premier League champions, while Moyes may opt to bring Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma off the bench if required.
Even if he is not selected tonight, though, it can’t be too long before Oko-Flex is knocking on the first-team door.
