Mark Chapman and Chris Sutton stunned as Micah Richards pays West Ham glowing tribute

Micah Richards paid a glowing tribute to West Ham this week but his admission left Mark Chapman and Chris Sutton baffled.

In a Monday evening [25/10/21] video relayed on the BBC 5 Live Sport Twitter account, the trio discussed the ex-Manchester City defender’s admiration for the Irons.

“West Ham, blowing bubbles, [I] used to go to Upton Park, it was brilliant,” Richards said. “I just loved going there so it’s always nice to see them doing well.”

Chapman replied: “West Ham are your second team did you just say?!”

Richards: “No, I didn’t say they’re my second team, I said they’re ‘like’. Everyone likes West Ham, don’t they? Remember the film Green Street and all that? We love West Ham.”

Sutton: “I’m not sure that’s a reason to like West Ham…”

Chapman: “I don’t think Tottenham or Chelsea like West Ham do they!”

Richards: “It was good to get a manager who has been written off by one of the top teams, going there and being given another chance and doing a good job. It’s a great story, it really is.”

Everyone’s second club?

Richard’s monologue isn’t something West Ham supporters have grown accustomed to over the last two decades.

A couple of relegations and ill-fated campaigns have seen the Irons become the subject of derision by rival fans who have been keen to stick the knife into the club.

However, David Moyes has built a side to be proud of at the London Stadium, and it has earned them admiring glances from afar.

Of course, they’re currently at the stage where the top teams can just about manage with them and do not yet see them as a substantial threat.

Last season proved that as the Irons fell away from a top-four spot to finish sixth, missing out on the Champions League.

However, the early signs are that they are unwilling to go away, and clubs like Manchester United are looking over their shoulders now.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have made contact over this 16-cap centre-forward amid his contract impasse.
