Tomas Soucek hailed as footage emerges from Newcastle v West Ham United
Michael Bridges was raving over Tomas Soucek as he opened the scoring for West Ham against Newcastle on Monday.
The Czech Republic international headed home a pinpoint delivery from Emerson to give the visitors an early lead at St James’ Park on 25 November.
Julen Lopetegui’s men then added another and held on for an impressive 2-0 win.
Speaking on Premier League Productions’ World Feed (25 November, 8:10pm), Bridges, a Sky Sports pundit, said: “Absolutely incredible. What a delivery it is into the box. What a header from Soucek. He uses the blocker. When you give that man that kind of space from a cross, it’s inevitable.”
Tomas Soucek continues to show his worth for West Ham
Soucek has been in and out of the team and there have been weeks when he’s been out of it but there also have been weeks when he’s been unplayable.
However, one thing he’s always been good at is getting his head on an aerial ball and that’s precisely what he did.
It even broke the Hammers’ curse of not scoring from set pieces and hopefully, the floodgates can open now for the coming weeks and months.
The timing of the goal was also crucial as the hosts started the game positively and looked like they would be the first to score.
After Soucek’s strike, they were unsettled and despite creating some telling chances, struggled to make Lukasz Fabianski work too much in goal.
Julen Lopetegui will also be thrilled with his how his midfielder and many other players played on Monday night.
