Simon Jordan drops David Moyes ‘redemption’ verdict amid West Ham United exit links
Simon Jordan has shared his verdict on David Moyes’ tenure at West Ham amid reports that Julen Lopetegui could be taking as manager over next season.
According to Mundo Deportivo [24 April], the Hammers have been in contact with the former Wolves manager for “months” as a potential replacement for Moyes.
While the Scot has come under considerable pressure for his defensive style of football, the former Crystal Palace owner has warned fans about what happened last time with Manuel Pellegrini.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Friday (26 April, 12:45pm), Jordan said: “West Ham has been good for David, and David has been very good for West Ham, despite the protestations of the fans that think the style of football isn’t great.
“That’s their gift; that’s their right. It’s their team and they can say what they want. They debate about the players they have bought and the fact they don’t utilise these players in a more flamboyant way – I’m talking about Kudus, Paqueta and other offensively-minded players.
“But the other argument is that Pellegrini had a way of playing that caused problems that Moyes had to come in and fix and fix it by putting West Ham at the higher echelons of the table, and into European competitions.
“My overriding feeling is that David built a redemption opportunity as a result of West Ham.”
Will David Moyes continue as West Ham United manager next season?
All signs of Moyes’ tenure continuing at the London Stadium next season point to ‘no’. While the Scot has earned his flowers as West Ham manager, it is clear what the fans want.
The Hammers will forever be able to thank him for leading the club to their first European trophy in four decades as they defeated Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.
However, football is a results-based game, and some of West Ham’s results and performances in the last few months have been nothing short of embarrassing, raising the pressure on Moyes.
Though their exit from this season’s Europa League was commendable, the match was sandwiched between two Premier League losses to Fulham and Crystal Palace – the latter being the worst of the two.

The 4-3 capitulation against Newcastle United was also another major moment in the season, one that was heavily criticised by fans, media, and neutrals alike.
The uncertainty of his future has also caused frustration, with the manager himself admitting that a new contract was on the table at the London Stadium. Some more transparency would have limited some of the criticism.
In other West Ham news, the club have been handed a major boost in appointing David Moyes’ replacement as a manager has made his future intentions clear.
