Richard Keys launches fresh attack on West Ham United after decision high up

Richard Keys has launched a fresh attack on West Ham after the decision was made for David Moyes to leave his post as manager this summer.

The club confirmed [6 May] that the Scot would be exiting the London Stadium upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the season, with Julen Lopetegui set to replace him for the 2024-25 campaign.

Moyes was under immense pressure throughout the campaign, mostly criticised for his defensive style of play and poor performances, and finished his tenure with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season.

Writing via his personal blog on Monday (20 May), Keys said: “Again – I can’t help thinking West Ham have dropped a b*****k allowing David Moyes to leave. They will eventually miss him. They just don’t realise how much yet.”

Will West Ham United regret David Moyes decision?

If Keys is correct in his prediction, it would not be the first time the Hammers have regretted allowing Moyes to leave the London Stadium, having done so in May 2018.

The 61-year-old was replaced by Manuel Pellegrini, a decision that was quickly slammed as the Argentine left his role 18 months later, with Moyes having to come back to save the club from relegation.

That is clear evidence that the grass is not always greener, though fans will be hoping for a different story when Lopetegui arrives at the club this summer.

The Spaniard has previous experience in the Premier League, having shown his managerial qualities with Wolves before leaving three days before the 2023/24 season started due to disagreements within the club.

West Ham manager David Moyes
David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

Moyes will, of course, be remembered for the special memories he has created during his spell at London Stadium, especially when leading West Ham to their first trophy in decades.

No one can take those memories away from the passionate fans, though it seemed like the right time for the manager to part ways with the Hammers before things turned sour.

In other West Ham news, Frank McAvennie has questioned the Hammers’ transfer spending and mooted a possible David Sullivan exit.
