Report: West Ham considering move for Ligue 1 midfielder

West Ham United’s continued search for a new central midfielder, which has seemingly engulfed this entire month, has yet to pay dividends.

Manager David Moyes still appears to be hugely reliant on first choice duo Declan Rice and Mark Noble, with not much behind them.

So it would be something of a surprise if the Hammers didn’t reinforce the middle of the park in the next week.

Indeed, France Football reported on Wednesday that the east London outfit are actively considering make a move for Nantes midfielder Abdoulaye Toure.

The Irons’ scouts have been left impressed by the 25-year-old, who has drawn comparison to former Hammer Cheikhou Kouyate.

Moyes’ side also like the look of Marseille man Morgan Sanson, but he has no intention of leaving the Ligue 1 giants this month.

Toure is in discussions with Nantes over a new contract, but talks aren’t thought to be going well. If sold, his club would likely want around £12million.

Would Toure be a good addition for the Hammers?

He probably would be, yes. He’s a good, rangy central midfielder who can do a bit of everything. He’s got three goals this season, but he’s primarily a defensive-minded player.

Indeed, he averages 1.3 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game this season, to go with 53.9 passes an outing with a success rate of 85.4%.

The Irons certainly need someone to come in and back up Rice and Noble, and Toure would appear to be a player who could do that very well.

In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly eyeing a swoop for a soon-to-be-available Premier League winger.
