Paul Merson backs West Ham United to win Europa League
Paul Merson believes West Ham will be too strong for anyone in the Europa League and has backed them to earn Champions League football for next season.
The Hammers are into the semi-finals of the Europa League where they will face Eintracht Frankfurt over two legs, where if they’re successful they’ll face either Rangers or RB Leipzig in the final.
Merson, who was speaking on Soccer Saturday, believes that David Moyes’ side are ‘too strong’ for those sides and has backed them to go on to win the whole thing.
“I think West Ham win the Europa,” he said.
“I think they’ll win the Europa, I think they’ll be too strong for the other teams in it, I think they’re a good team.
“There’ll be Champions League football next season.”
Prayers
West Ham fans wouldn’t have believed in their wildest imaginations at the start of the season that they’d be in this position now, yet here they are.
Moyes has got the team believing and performing at a level where winning the tournament is a genuine possibility, which would see them go into the Champions League next season in pot number one.

It would be a huge turnaround for a club that were battling relegation when Moyes joined two years ago and would go some way to convincing players they’re going in the right direction.
Players like Declan Rice are keen to be playing in the Champions League and with West Ham desperate to keep him for as long as possible, doing that themselves gives them a huge opportunity.
It will be tough to do, but ultimately the club are just three positive results away from lifting the trophy for the first time ever, so never say never.
