Thomas Tuchel admits Declan Rice out of Chelsea's league with West Ham valuation

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is likely out of their league due to their restrictions and his valuation.

Rice has been subject to major interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Man City [Telegraph] which has led to the Hammers setting a valuation of £150m for their star man.

But after rejecting a third offer for a new contract [Fabrizio Romano] there has been added speculation he could leave in the summer. Tuchel though, speaking in his pre-match presser [Friday, April 22], has essentially ruled the Blues out of the race.

“Maybe he is out of our league if we don’t have the crisis,” he said, as quoted by The Mirror. “That can be when you hear the numbers that are floating around.

“As you know, we generally don’t speak about other players, when it comes to whether we are interested, not interested because we take care of the guys that we have here.

“And the situation gives me a slight advantage in that at the moment we cannot even think about buying or selling or doing whatever, so there is nothing to think about.”

Boost

Considering the history that Rice has with Chelsea, having come through their academy before being released well into his teens, they were the big worry.

Rice has never made it a secret that he is a big Chelsea fan and he has a lot of friends, namely Mason Mount, at the club having grown up with a large section of the squad.

But with Tuchel all but ruling out a move for the midfielder to Stamford Bridge this summer, David Moyes and co can likely breathe a little bit easier.

Man City are unlikely to meet the high valuation for Rice, especially with a move for Erling Haaland reportedly close, while Man United won’t be in the Champions League next season so that would be a sideways step.

It’s one less problem for West Ham to worry about this summer, as they look to bolster their squad to be able to compete with the top sides for honours going forward.
