Marseille president Longoria brings down asking price for West Ham target Caleta-Car

West Ham have reportedly submitted a loan to buy offer for Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, ahead of a potential January swoop.

According to L’Equipe, president Pablo Longoria has brought down his asking price.

However, it is believed that the offer the Hammers made is still not ‘enticing’ enough and this could be a saga worth watching in the final hours of the window.

Sign him

West Ham need a centre-back desperately this month after Angelo Ogbonna’s season-ending ACL injury.

Even if he was fit, his age makes it almost imperative for them to plan for the future.

At 25, the Croatia international represents an option for the future as well as the present and the Hammers must consider signing him at all costs.

While the report does not share how much his valuation has been brought down, it’s clear that Marseille are willing to do a deal.

What West Ham could do is make it an obligation to buy so Marseille will be guaranteed of incoming funds at the end of the season.

As things stand, there is still no clear progress about the deal and hopefully, something happens before the window slams shut.

If not, there needs to be a backup plan as there are just four days to go until February and the club are no closer to making a new signing.
