David Moyes wants West Ham to sign two new players in the January transfer window, according to reliable journalist Jack Rosser.

The Evening Standard reporter has claimed that the Hammers boss will step up his efforts to sign a defender and striker this month.

The likes of Nat Phillips, Duje Caleta-Car and Ben Brereton Diaz have been linked with a move to the London Stadium.

These two positions have needed strengthening before the window even opened.

Even to the casual football fan, it was clear that the Hammers were unsustainable without a striker and their top two centre-backs.

While Kurt Zouma has recovered from his injury ahead of schedule, Angelo Ogbonna remains out for the rest of the season.

Michail Antonio is 31 and does not have a terrific injury record on his side either, making the need to sign a striker priority.

The Hammers have no other senior number nines to take over when the Jamaica international is unavailable.

This puts them in a spot of bother and we're surprised that they've not closed in on a striker given the fact that Champions League qualification could be at stake.

The club must be in a position to loosen the purse strings as they need to seal these transfers at any cost this month.
