Lucas Paqueta sends David Moyes farewell message ahead of West Ham exit

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has said that David Moyes “deserves recognition” for his work at the London Stadium, ahead of his final game in charge.

In an interview with ESPN Brazil, the playmaker said that he was very grateful to Moyes for the job he’s done with West Ham, marking his name in the club’s history by winning last season’s UEFA Conference League.

Paqueta and West Ham face Manchester City in their final game of the season, and Moyes’ side could have a big say on the fate of the Premier League title before the Scotsman bows out.

“I am very grateful to the coach for what he did here. He has always been a very fair person, speaking up front, looking you in the eye.” Paqueta said.

“I’ve had many coaches in Europe and not many of them are like the way he interacts. He has always been a very loyal person, so he deserves recognition.”

West Ham to farewell Moyes and more against Manchester City

West Ham United gave Moyes an appropriate send-off in his final home game in charge at the London Stadium, and the players matched those tributes, coming back from 1-0 down to record a dominant 3-1 victory over Luton in the second half.

A trip to the Etihad Stadium on the final day could see Moyes pull off one final big result for the Hammers, who could gift the Premier League title to Arsenal if they avoid defeat against City.

David Moyes will manage West Ham United for the final time against Manchester City on May 19.

Facing the Sky Blues on the last day of the campaign also shapes up as an interesting paradox for Paqueta himself, who has been linked with leaving East London this summer – and heading north to join last season’s treble winners at Eastlands.

A potential farewell for both Moyes and Paqueta – as well as a whole host of out-of-contract West Ham stars – would undoubtedly see both player and manager alike do their utmost to go out on a high – even if, in Paqueta’s case, it’s against the side he’s heavily rumoured to be joining next season.
