Karen Carney: Declan Rice is unbelievable
Karen Carney was distracted by watching Declan Rice’s movement as West Ham beat Aston Villa 4-1 on Sunday.
The 22-year-old put in an incredible shift for the Hammers and got a goal for his efforts as well, something that usually does not happen.
Sky Sports’ Carney was on co-commentary with Peter Drury for the Premier League’s world feed during the game and lost track because she was paying careful attention to what Rice was doing.

She said, “I’m sorry I lost track. I’m just watching Declan Rice. He’s unbelievable.
“He’s actually a complete player. Has taken his game to the next level and performed well at the EUROs too.”
Sensational player
Carney is right. That’s something that happens to all of us whenever we watch the Hammers place.
Rice is a holding midfielder by trade, but there’s nothing static about his performances.
He drops so deep at times that he looks like a third centre-back and often he finds himself in the final third looking to play that key pass that will lead to a goal.

There’s something so satisfying watching him play and so quickly he’s established himself as a mainstay in the England side.
At 22, Rice has become one of the league’s best midfielders and arguably the best under-23 player as well.
It’s hard to believe that the England international is not in his prime as it’s scary to imagine just how good he can get in the future.
