Garth Crooks stunned by Pablo Fornals & Kurt Zouma in West Ham win v Liverpool
Garth Crooks was left stunned by West Ham United duo Kurt Zouma and Pablo Fornals in the 3-2 win over Liverpool.
The Irons duo were involved in his Team of the Week for the BBC after both found the back of the net in the victory.
Crooks insisted he couldn’t believe what he was watching, admitting that the Hammers outclassed their opponents.
Crooks started his praise in his BBC column for Zouma, choosing to single out his past at Everton in the aftermath.
“First and foremost, it’s a great header for his goal,” he said. “Zouma rose at the back post to nod home what will go down as one of West Ham’s greatest victories over Liverpool.
“The irony of a former Everton player scoring against Liverpool – and putting a serious dent into their title challenge – won’t be lost on the blue side of Merseyside.”
It was followed on by glowing praise for Fornals, who appeared to do all the damage on Sunday evening.
“I saw the game, but I couldn’t believe what I was watching. Liverpool were outmuscled and outclassed. I don’t know what David Moyes is saying to his players but West Ham are flying.
“It was Fornals who seemed to be the striker causing Liverpool’s defence so much concern.”
We still haven’t gotten over that win last night, it was simply incredible.
Liverpool couldn’t believe what had hit them at the London Stadium, as someone finally stood up to them and took the game to them.
That pressure saw them crumble, and West Ham used their strengths perfectly and dominated from set-pieces through the likes of Zouma with two of our goals coming from them.
Fornals was pulling all the strings in open play too, with the Spaniard also getting an assist as well as his goal.
What an evening this was, and all it simply proved was that the Champions League is a realistic goal this season, that has to be the motivation.
