Gabriel Agbonlahor: West Ham ‘robbed’ against Chelsea after VAR controversy

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that West Ham were “robbed” in the Premier League match against Chelsea.

The Hammers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in controversial circumstances at Stamford Bridge on Saturday where Maxwel Cornet’s goal was disallowed for an apparent Jarrod Bowen foul on goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

While speaking to talkSport, the former England international stated that Chelsea were lucky to go away with all three points.

“West Ham, they were robbed,” he said. “Chelsea for me, were very lucky to win today. Yeah, they were an absolute shambles.”

Time to focus

West Ham’s season started in the worst possible manner as the team suffered three back-to-back defeats. But things started to change a bit as the Hammers won against Aston Villa and secured a well-deserved 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Therefore, the Irons entered the fixture knowing they had a real chance of getting the better of the opposition who are also struggling at the same time.

However, suffering a defeat, that too in extremely controversial circumstances will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Hammers fans as well as the players.

Manager David Moyes was right in his criticism of the officials after the match because his team was clearly hard done by on Saturday but now, the onus will be on him to galvanise his players ahead of the UEFA Conference League fixtures.

The result was not great but it also give the players a little bit of belief as they went toe-to-toe with two of the big boys — Spurs and Chelsea — and should’ve come away with at least a point from each game.
