ExWHUemployee: West Ham United to open contract negotiations with Jarrod Bowen after Europa Conference League final

West Ham are planning to open contract talks with Jarrod Bowen over fresh terms to extend his stay at the club after the Europa Conference League final.

Bowen saw talks over a new deal postponed last year after interest from Newcastle and Arsenal, and struggled to recapture that form this season as the Hammers struggled.

But with the club reaching a European final this season, ExWHUemployee told his podcast on Patreon (5 June) that talks are expected to take place “pretty promptly” to tie him down for the future.

“We’ve got a bit of an issue with Ben Johnson’s future so it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out,” he said.

“Jarrod Bowen’s contract is only a few years off as well so the club hope that off the back of a European success they can tie him down to a new deal. I think negotiations will start pretty promptly after Wednesday to try and get that done.”

Bowen’s current contract at the London Stadium is currently set to run until 2025, and we’re now entering a very important stage of negotiations.

As we’re seeing with Declan Rice right now, a two-year gap isn’t that big and significantly weakens the leverage we have if we want to sell but also brings a big risk that they could run their deal down.

We don’t want to happen with Bowen, who has become one of the most important players in the team in that right-wing role and tying him down should be a priority for the summer now.

It’s good to hear that the club are aware of that and see that importance too, so now it’s all about finding a deal that works for everyone.

His performances since joining mean a pay-rise is almost certainly on the horizon, and a long-term deal could work for everyone so hopefully this won’t drag on for too long.
