David Moyes to snub new Premier League job after West Ham United exit
Jamie O’Hara has backed David Moyes to snub a new Premier League job after his West Ham United exit this summer.
The Scotsman departed the London Stadium when his contract expired at the end of last season, with Tim Steidten and the rest of the Irons’ decision-makers opting to head in a new direction with Julen Lopetegui.
Since then, Moyes has been out of work despite being linked with several jobs and talkSPORT pundit O’Hara doesn’t believe the Scotsman would be interested in succeeding Russell Martin at Southampton.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday (30 October, 22:21) he said: “I don’t know if David Moyes would go to Southampton mate.
“You might ask him and he might pick up the phone and say no thanks.”
What has happened to David Moyes after West Ham and London Stadium exit?
Moyes’ stock should still be fairly high even though his last season at the London Stadium wasn’t quite as impressive as the rest of his tenure in East London.
The Scotsman led the Hammers to a European title, qualified for Europa League or Europa Conference League football for three successive seasons and had the Irons regularly challenging in the top half of the Premier League.
While his football may not be the most fashionable, he has consistently got results in the top flight and he probably deserves another job at one of the teams fighting in the middle of the table, rather than one struggling in the relegation battle.
Moyes may well be capable of stepping into the dugout at St Mary’s, but whether or not he is interested in doing so is another question. He has no need to take on that sort of job and he may be more likely to hold out for something more appealing.
It would certainly be a shock to see him in charge of the Saints in the coming weeks.
