David Moyes shares latest injury update on West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma

David Moyes has suggested that West Ham defender Kurt Zouma is recovering “ahead of schedule”, but he has refused to put a date on his return.

Zouma picked up an injury before the break for the 2022 World Cup against Leicester City. He underwent surgery on his knee and could be out for a while.

The Frenchman missed all three mid-season friendlies and is still out of action ahead of the Premier League clash against Arsenal. He could miss the busy festive schedule as well, but Moyes seems happy with his recovery.

“Kurt Zouma’s doing really well, he’s probably ahead of schedule,” said Moyes, as quoted by Football London.

“He is always someone who normally comes back pretty quickly so I’m hoping that he might not be too bad.

“I’m not sure [of a return date] yet, but I’ve got to say he’s recovering really well and he’s going well.”

January plans?

Moyes suggested previously that he will not sign players just for the sake of it. Rather, he will only sign someone in January if there is an injury crisis.

It seems he is very happy with the progress made by Zouma and thus it looks unlikely that he will sign a new defender in January.

Nayef Aguerd is expected to return to action shortly, even if he misses the game against the Gunners.

Thilo Kehrer, Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are around, and Moyes has enough depth at the back.

In the summer, he should look to buy new defenders as Ogbonna and Dawson are expected to leave, and new additions are required to fill those voids.

The Hammers could look to sign a new striker though as they are struggling to score enough goals.

Moyes could also look to sign a new right-back, especially if Vladimir Coufal leaves the club.

Zouma has been a key player for the club, and let’s hope that he returns to action quickly.
