David Moyes sends bold message on West Ham United January transfer plans

David Moyes has made it clear on Friday (23 December) that West Ham will not look to sign new players in January unless there are any serious injuries.

The Hammers spent heavily in the summer transfer window but the results have not gone their way.

There are suggestions that the Hammers could look to sign a new defender and a midfielder, but it appears that Moyes is happy with the squad he has got.

“We spent in the summer so will only get busy in January if there’s an injury,” said Moyes, as quoted by Football London.

Bold hint?

Moyes has given a clear hint today that there’s very little money available for transfer, and the club will only do so if there’s an injury. 

To be fair, the Hammers do have a very good squad. Moyes simply needs to get the best out of his big-money summer signings like Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta, Nayef Aguerd and Maxwell Cornet. 

Despite the injury to Kurt Zouma, the Hammers should have enough options to cover his void, and adding a new defender now looks unnecessary. 

The right-back situation is interesting. If Vladimir Coufal leaves the club, it could open the space for any new arrival. 

The Hammers have underperformed in the first half of the season, and they need a strong comeback to get back into the top six or seven. 

West Ham have backed Moyes thoroughly in the summer window, and they retain full faith in their manager. However, his position could become untenable if the results do not improve.
