David Moyes hints at tactical change for West Ham forward Pablo Fornals

David Moyes was full of praise for Pablo Fornals yesterday (1 March) ahead of the FA Cup clash between West Ham and Southampton.

The Spaniard has established himself as a key player under David Moyes and he is seen as a cult hero in East London.

The 26-year-old played out of position in the 1-0 win against Wolves in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Sunday, and Moyes has hinted he could continue to use him in different positions.

Moyes said, as quoted by Claret and Hugh: “I watched them against Arsenal and felt that we had to try it. We have done it before against Wolves but we lost.

“However, we felt for this game it was needed. I thought he played really well in that role and did a good job for us there.

“Pablo is really flexible and he can play in so many different positions and while we are without Arthur [Masuaku] and have a few injuries it has left us a little bit short, without an out and out wing-back. So it is something where I am glad he came in and did a good job for us.”

Versatile

Fornals undoubtedly is one of the most important members of this side and he has played an important role thus far.

He is not only one of the most creative players for the Hammers but also very hardworking as well.

In recent months, the Hammers have struggled to create enough chances and score loads of goals, and Fornals has also suffered a dip in form.

West Ham

Moyes needed to shake things up against Wolves after a few disappointing results and used Fornals in the left wing-back role.

He is comfortable playing everywhere across the pitch. The former Villarreal midfielder is the most versatile player on the side, and he can play on the wings as well.

Vladimir Coufal is out injured while the likes of Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masauku are also out at the moment, so Fornals could be used in different roles in the next few games.

He was superb against Wolves and the club need him to deliver in the FA Cup away at Southampton on Wednesday (2 March) as they look to progress to the next round of the competition.
