Danny Ings medical on Thursday at West Ham United with out of the blue deal close

Danny Ings is set to undergo his West Ham United medical later on Thursday ahead of completing his £15million move from Aston Villa, according to The Sun’s Jack Rosser.

Sky Sports claim the Hammers have completed the signing of the 30-year-old striker, with an official announcement set to follow.

Rosser has since suggested a move is indeed close, with Ings set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the London Stadium.

“Danny Ings undergoing his West Ham medical later today ahead of a £15million move from Aston Villa. Becoming quite the expert in out-of-the-blue moves,” wrote The Sun journalist (Twitter, 19 January).

This move has completely come out of the blue and will excite a number of Hammers’ fans. Ings is a proven goalscorer and could be exactly what David Moyes needs as he fights to turn West Ham’s season around.

The striker has been in good form for Aston Villa and it’s surprising to see Unai Emery sanction his move to the London Stadium. Villa must have a replacement lined up, with the Spaniard potentially looking to add his own players after taking the job in the West Midlands.

West Ham are in a relegation fight and having a proven goalscorer such as Ings in their ranks could turn out to be invaluable. Michail Antonio has struggled in the 2022/23 campaign and Gianluca Scamacca has been plagued with injuries and poor form.

If West Ham do secure Premier League survival, many fans could look back to this moment as a potential turning point in their season.
