Danny Dyer shares what Jarrod Bowen thinks about West Ham teammate

Jarrod Bowen has become West Ham United’s focal point in recent years and as captain his opinion carries huge weight in East London.

Bowen has been a talismanic figure for David Moyes, Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter at the London Stadium, popping up to score important goals for West Ham which have saved their below-par season.

Of the 32 goals West Ham have scored this season, Bowen has provided eight of them and, of that total, Bowen’s strikes have been directly responsible four times for the Irons turning one point into three.

Injuries to players in the frontline such as Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio have forced both Lopetegui and Potter to play Bowen as a makeshift striker, albeit the 28-year-old does finally have some assistance.

Bowen thoughts on West Ham star shared by Danny Dyer

One player who arrived at the London Stadium in January has promised to lighten the load on Bowen’s shoulders, having been signed by West Ham on loan from Brighton, is Irish forward Evan Ferguson.

Speaking on Off The Ball (2 March), West Ham fan and Bowen’s soon-to-be father-in-law Danny Dyer stated his desire for the Irons to sign Ferguson permanently, and shared Bowen’s thoughts on the striker.

Dyer said: “I love the idea of Evan – I remember when he first burst onto the scene with Brighton and everyone was raving about him. I would love to nick him from Brighton.

Evan Ferguson’s Premier League form has fluctuated since his breakthrough season at Brighton

“I’d love him to come to West Ham [permanently]. Jarrod [Bowen] likes him as well, he gets on with him, he thinks he’s got something about him.

“I really hope it works out for him at West Ham because he will be a starter for us – if he can stay fit.

“We need a young, Irish striker, that’s hungry and ambitious, and he could be a brilliant, brilliant signing for us so I hope it works out for him at West Ham for the remainder of the season.”

Evan Ferguson yet to justify West Ham transfer verdict

Although Ferguson’s arrival has helped to give West Ham more of a focal point up front, three Premier League substitute appearances and no goals makes it far too early for a true judgement to be made.

Not only have the Irons lacked the presence of a traditional number nine this term, Antonio, Danny Ings, and Fullkrug when fit have also failed to provide the potency they’ve desperately needed in front of goal.

Until Ferguson starts scoring for the Hammers and truly establishes himself as the number nine they’ve long since needed, Potter and Kyle Macauley will be hesitant to push for a permanent transfer.

Although Potter’s prior relationship with Ferguson from their Brighton days was the driving force behind West Ham’s pursuit of the 20-year-old in January, there is no option to buy included in his loan deal.

As a result, it remains to be seen if West Ham will pursue Ferguson permanently come season’s end, but if Bowen and Potter are both fans of the young striker, there’s every chance that they’ll do just that.
