Chris Sutton insists West Ham summer signing could be ‘key’ to victory vs Burnley

West Ham are set to take on Burnley on Saturday, with Chris Sutton believing that Callum Wilson could be key for the Hammers.

The former Newcastle man joined the East London club in the summer and has enjoyed a solid start despite West Ham’s form.

Against Newcastle, Wilson was fantastic and played a key role in ensuring that Nuno Espirito Santo picked up his first win as Hammers boss.

Now, with another match against Burnley around the corner, the attacker could be key.

Chris Sutton: Callum Wilson could be the difference maker against Burnley

Going into the match, Wilson already has a fantastic record against Burnley.

This may prompted the manager to start the striker once again, despite Wilson not traditionally suiting Nuno’s the system.

If he is given the nod, Sutton believes that he could prove to be vital in the upcoming clash.

When giving his prediction of Saturday’s match, the pundit singled out the West Ham man on BBC Sport on 6 November.

He said: “West Ham are going to have to work hard to win this and maybe Callum Wilson holds the key.

“He was a nuisance for the Hammers last time out. It meant Bowen did not have to carry the team, and Wilson could make the difference this time too.”

Sutton then went on to predict that West Ham would come out 2-1 winners at the London Stadium against Burnley.

What has Nuno Espirito Santo said about Wilson?

Since coming to West Ham, Nuno has been quick to praise Wilson for his contributions to the East London club.

This was most prominent in his press conference before the Newcastle match, when the manager took the time to hail the former Magpies attacker.

He stated: “He’s a top professional, who has understood the decisions.

“He’s committed to the squad, and to helping us. He can bring good things to the squad, but all members of the squad are important.”

Hopefully, Wilson can now start adding goals to his game at West Ham, with the striker no doubt looking to net his second of the campaign against Burnley on Saturday.

If he can do this and pull the Hammers out of the relegation zone, he could go down as an excellent signing.
