Arsenal halt contract talks with West Ham target Alexandre Lacazette until end of season

West Ham have been handed a major boost to sign Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette for free in the summer.

On Thursday, The Athletic reported that the Gunners will not be holding contract talks with the Frenchman despite his deal running out at the end of the season.

Instead, the Gunners let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave which meant that Lacazette was their only out and out senior number nine.

Speaking about the 30-year-old’s contractual situation, Mikel Arteta said, “There is a chance (Lacazette signs a new deal), but we have decisions to make on three or four players in regards to the summer.

“That’s what we are going to do. At the end of the season, we will sit down and decide what’s the best for all the parties.”

Lacazette may not be the most clinical of goal scorers but he’s got the big game experience.

Not only has he featured in several European games for the Gunners, he’s also a France international.

Working with players like Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema is certainly going to have a major impact on his game.

He’s 30 so there is very little upside in signing him as he would have almost no resale value.

However, if he will join on a free, the club will not be worried about that and would instead look to get the most out of him for the next two seasons or however long he wants to stay in London.
