Ally McCoist drops 'serious' West Ham United transfer verdict amid David Moyes sack talk

Ally McCoist has questioned whether David Moyes will be the man to spend the “serious” transfer fee West Ham will receive for Declan Rice.

It’s believed the midfielder is on Manchester City’s shortlist and that Pep Guardiola is preparing an opening bid which will include Kalvin Phillips moving to the London Stadium (Claret and Hugh13 May).

McCoist believes the Hammers will receive a significant transfer fee for the midfielder but has cast doubt over Moyes’ long-term future.

“They will get a serious amount of money when Declan goes and when West Ham decide to sell him,” said McCoist (talkSPORT, 18 May).

“Are you confident David Moyes will be given the chance to spend the money?”

Up in the air

Moyes’ future is certainly up in the air at present. Earlier in the season, it seemed nailed on for the West Ham boss to depart. The inconsistency and overall poor performances had speculation growing over his time at the London Stadium. However, after a relatively strong end to the campaign and a potential European final to look forward to, there’s been talk of the board sticking by the Scot.

It’s a decision which will divide the fan base. Many feel that regardless of the outcome of the Hammers’ Conference League run, that his time is now up. A new manager with fresh ideas is required. Furthermore, can the West Ham boss be trusted to reinvest the Rice money effectively?

The 24-year-old midfielder now looks certain to depart in the summer, with a new contract unlikely to be signed. Arsenal have emerged as a contender, along with Guardiola’s City. It’s essential the club land a fee which represents Rice’s significant value to the club. Anything below the £100million mark would see West Ham short-changed.
