Alan Shearer fumes after what he saw in West Ham United v Newcastle clash

Alan Shearer was disappointed how West Ham were allowed to find their way back into the game and equalise against Newcastle.

The Magpies appeared to be heading for a 2-1 victory but Mohammed Kudus scored just before the 90th minute to ensure the Hammers secured a point.

Shearer, a Newcastle legend, was understandably upset, especially after the highs they achieved in midweek by beating PSG.

He wrote on the BBC, “They might have got a bit lucky in Milan but there was nothing fortunate about the way they beat Paris St-Germain last week – it was an amazing game, one of the best I have been to.

“Nights like that lift the whole club and they are exactly what they worked so hard for last year.

“Following that up against West Ham on Sunday was always going to be tough, and they struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, which was understandable.

“After that, though, they showed a great reaction and will feel they should have won it. The only disappointing part of their whole week was seeing West Ham equalise so late on.”

Right result?

Despite being the hosts, it was evident that the Hammers would be sitting back and inviting pressure onto themselves and play on the counter.

They had 35 per cent possession and half the attempts as Newcastle did but they were efficient with their efforts.

The Magpies had possession but failed to utilise it and David Moyes did a brilliant job to ensure his side was ready to kill the opposition in transition.

It was the fair result and not a smash and grab and perhaps Shearer would’ve had a different view had the goal come 10-15 minutes earlier.

At that point, it seemed like Newcastle were heading for the three points so it would’ve been a proper kick in the teeth.

However, that’s football and Shearer should know that it’s a 90 minute game and clubs cannot afford to take their eyes off the ball.

In other West Ham news, a Hammers star has the same conversation with a manager as James Maddison did before he joined Tottenham Hotspur.
