Alan Pardew makes ‘David Moyes Out’ claim amid West Ham United sack talk

Alan Pardew has laughed off claims that David Moyes should be sacked as West Ham United manager and believes it should be his choice whether to stay on next season or not.

The Hammers sit in 7th place in the Premier League after a 2-2 draw with Burnley at the weekend, while they face a huge Europa League clash with Freiburg on Thursday after losing the first-leg 1-0.

There has been a host of speculation about the manager’s future, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season and the club not convinced about handing him a new deal and making contact with prospective new coaches.

But while speaking to talkSPORT (March 10th, 7:42 pm), ex-boss Pardew was stunned at the speculation considering the Hammers’ league position and believes the club should be handing him a new deal.

“West Ham are seventh. They are 1-0 down, right, in the European game, and I think they will turn them over on Thursday actually,” he said.

“He is above De Zerbi, Poch, Silva, Thomas Frank, everyone is going, ‘Oh, they are lovely, how they play’. Brighton haven’t won for six games, Brentford haven’t won for a while. There they are sitting seventh, West Ham, and above them are Man United, Tottenham, okay Aston Villa, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal. That is probably them top of the league.

“You could argue they should be above Villa. So, stats-wise it doesn’t add up – David Moyes Out. It doesn’t add up to me. You know, this journey that they have been on, they have won the Cup, let’s see where that decision is at the end of the year.

“They should offer him the contract, and, in my opinion, it should be down to David Moyes and whether he feels it is time to move on to a new agenda for himself or to stay at the Hammers.”

West Ham fans want something different

It feels like people have been saying this for a while, but West Ham fans aren’t suggesting that Moyes hasn’t done a good job since becoming manager.

The point is more that the club could be doing better with the squad they have considering the way Moyes likes to set his teams up, and a more offensive minded coach could have the squad playing even better.

It feels like Moyes has hit his ceiling as a manager by pushing for Europe every week with defensive football, and fans have begun to grow tired of being uninspired despite having players like Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus.

If the club find themselves in a position where someone like a Thomas Tuchel is available and willing to join, then they would be crazy not to pursue it in the hope of seeing their fortunes improve.

Moyes has done well and fans will always be thankful to him, but it feels like the right time for the two parties to go their opposite ways this summer.

In other West Ham news, Hammers have held talks with the entourage of a summer target over a £45m move.
