West Ham Exclusive: Frank McAvennie reacts to Ogbonna & Diop injury blows
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has reacted to the double injury blow to West Ham United defenders Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna against Manchester United.
Ogbonna had to leave the game early with an ankle problem, and then his replacement, Diop became the first player used in a concussion substitution in England.
McAvennie believes that Diop should have recovered and will be ready to step back in for the Premier League clash against Sheffield United on Monday.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “It’s not as bad as it looks.
“What a load of nonsense, it just looked a like a bang to the head. It’s changed days, very changed days – but, you have to look out for concussion stuff these days.
“Sometimes, it’s not as bad as what it seems. Hopefully, the two of them are alright and they can come back.
“If not, Balbuena can come in.”
The Hammers shared a positive update on Friday morning, with Diop set to be available against the Blades, which is a huge boost.
Ogbonna, on the other hand, will spend time in a protective boot with his time on the sidelined unknown as of now.
West Ham have strengthened their defence superbly in the past year, with Craig Dawson coming in from Watford, and Fabian Balbuena on the bench and ready if needed.
