Pundit would love West Ham United to sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Pundit Frank McAvennie thinks West Ham should try to sign Manchester City defender Nathan Ake as he would be exactly what they need.
The Hammers are keen to bolster their squad after a season that saw them finish 7th in the Premier League and reach the Europa League semi-finals, before losing to eventual winners Frankfurt.
Their search for new defenders has pointed them in the direction of Netherlands international Ake according to 90min on May 23rd, and ex-Scotland striker McAvennie believes the 27-year-old would be ideal for David Moyes’ side.

“I don’t know because he came from Bournemouth and didn’t get a chance,” he told West Ham Zone.
“Listen I don’t think he’s a Man City player and Stones has come back in, that’s what’s causing him to stay out because Stones was out of the picture. Now he’s back in.
“I wouldn’t be too upset if we signed someone like that. He’s a good, powerful defender. He’s an international so that’s even better because they [Holland] are not a bad team. They’re brought up the right way.
“He doesn’t mind a battle but he can play silky on the ball. He’s pretty decent. I think he prefers to go and have a scrap with somebody which would be brilliant for West Ham, because that’s what they need.

“They’ve got so many players that love to get the ball down and play that sometimes you just need somebody whose job is just to go and win that. Sometimes you need that. That’s someone I’d take from Man City all day long.”
Ake seems likely to leave the Etihad this summer but with West Ham closing in on the signing of Nayef Aguerd from Rennes, it seems like he will probably go elsewhere.
