Lopetegui heading one way if he doesn’t fix abysmal West Ham trait that’s frustrating Bowen

Julen Lopetegui may be heading for the West Ham United exit doors if he can’t improve his team’s discipline this season.

The Hammers have already received three red cards this campaign with Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus being the two West Ham players to have been sent off this term.

While Lopetegui may have plenty of cover in midfield, West Ham can’t afford to continue going down to 10 men.

They’re already struggling this season against their Premier League opponents and the red cards they’re receiving are just making things far worse.

Speaking to Premier League Productions in quotes relayed by WHUFC.com (3 November), Jarrod Bowen shared his frustrations after the Hammers’ 3-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.

“It’s not good enough and obviously, when you go down to 10 men, it makes it harder again,” he said.

“Going in 1-0 down at the break with eleven men, we knew we would still have been in the game, but with 10, obviously it was even more difficult.

“But those are the circumstances that we were in, and it was important at 1-0, it’s only one goal.

“They’ve obviously got a man more, but it’s about being clever and not conceding, but we didn’t manage to do that and in the end, we conceded two and it could have been more so it’s frustrating, for sure.”

Julen Lopetegui and West Ham United need to step things up

West Ham have been a bit of a curious case this season. They currently sit 14th in the Premier League and are six points clear of the drop zone.

While this may seem like a solid cushion for Lopetegui’s men to have, it feels like they’re well in the relegation battle.

Which, for many fans will have come as quite a shock due to the amount of money they spent on players in the summer transfer window such as Jean Clair-Todibo.

Granted, it’s still early in the season and things can change quickly in football but if West Ham continues down this path for the rest of the season, it’s hard to see how things will get any better.

Bowen’s recent form is one of the only positives that have emerged from the London Stadium this season but, if he stops firing at any point, then the future of Lopetegui will likely be questioned once again.
