West Ham United behind only Brighton, Man City in new reveal

West Ham made a pre-tax profit bettered only by Brighton and Manchester City in the 2023-24 season, according to Swiss Ramble.

The finance expert claimed that the Hammers made £57million pre-tax profit last season, behind only City (£74m) and the Seagulls (£133m).

That is a £75m increase on the previous season’s £18m loss, with the exits of Declan Rice, Gianluca Scamacca, Nikola Vlasic and Pablo Fornals contributing to a club-record £96m in player sales.

The East London club’s revenue rose from £237m to £270m, also another club record amount with broadcasting figures rising by 13 per cent to £167m, commercial income rising 21 per cent to £58m and matchday earnings up by nine per cent to £45m.

West Ham in a strong financial position

The evidence suggests that the Irons are in a strong financial position and that may come in handy in the January transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui’s side requires fresh impetus in the squad as he attempts to salvage his stint in the dugout at the London Stadium.

The Spaniard is under immense pressure in East London, with the Hammers sitting in 14th place in the Premier League and ten points off a potential European qualification spot.

The Irons need to get their season back on track sooner rather than later otherwise Lopetegui could be handed his marching orders.

Sporting director Tim Steidten is also under pressure given the fact that the club spent approximately £120m on new signings in the summer, most of which have not worked out so far this campaign.

That figure is not reflected in the numbers above and could restrict the Hammers’ ability to spend in January, but they need to do something to get the season back up to standard.

In other West Ham news, the club have been linked with a move for a 69-cap international who has Premier League experience.
