West Ham United told Jonathan David is theirs for £22m amid new Juventus dilemma

West Ham United have learned the £22million asking price for Jonathan David ahead of the summer window, with Juventus open to a sale.

The Irons’ goalscorer issues have continued this season, despite the arrival of Taty Castellanos and Pablo.

Argentine Castellanos has netted three goals since arriving in January; meanwhile, Pablo is still awaiting his first goal in the claret and blue shirt.

Nuno Espirito Santo seeking another name for his ranks would certainly make sense, and long-term West Ham target David could finally join.

Ahead of West Ham’s summer business, they have learned the likelihood of securing the services of the Canadian international.

How likely is Jonathan David to leave Juventus this summer?

The future of David at Juventus is continuing to be fuelled with speculation with the Canadian struggling for the Old Lady.

After his contract expired at Lille, the 26-year-old made the move to the Serie A last summer, but he could now be on the move again.

According to Tuttosport, the likelihood of David leaving the Turin-based club is growing “more and more concrete” every week.

East London has been mentioned as a possible destination, with Juventus’ asking price of £22m not “prohibitive” to the Premier League outfit.

David has previously been on West Ham’s radar, with the Irons targeting him last summer before he agreed a deal with Juventus as well as back in January.

They could now finally land their man after learning what it would take to sign him.

Of course, as is the case with many of the Hammers’ transfer targets, a move would likely depend on their Premier League status come the end of the season.

If West Ham are relegated, that would certainly put an end to any prospect of landing the striker, who has many other top-flight suitors.

Nottingham Forest, Lyon and Marseille are among the clubs in the mix alongside the Hammers.

Will Jonathan David’s wages be an issue for West Ham?

At Juventus, David is on a reported £5.2m a year, which at London Stadium would place him among the Hammers’ top five earners.

After failing to impress in Serie A, questions will be raised over whether those finances would put the Irons off a move.

Max Kilman is on similar wages, so if the Englishman departs as looks likely, then a straight swap in terms of the books could be attractive.

Either way, with the future of Callum Wilson in doubt, Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping to add another forward to his ranks ahead of next season.

Hopefully, the Irons’ summer moves will be made with the Premier League in mind, rather than chasing promotion from the Championship.
