West Ham owe answers to Callum Wilson as Premier League snub poses exit questions

West Ham United opted against moving Callum Wilson on in the winter, only for him to become a bit-part player at best.

Relegation fears are still strong at the London Stadium, despite their recent upturn in form under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, they would have been signficantly stronger had it not been for Wilson, who earned the Hammers a crucial three points against Tottenham back in January.

That was around the time that the Englishman was heavily linked with an exit from West Ham, with the Irons seemingly ready to sanction it.

However, Wilson’s goal against Tottenham changed everything in that regard, and he deserves answers about what has happened since.

Callum Wilson snub makes little sense at West Ham

Despite having scored five big goals in the Premier League this season, Wilson has still only started 10 games for the Hammers.

And to make matters worse, he hasn’t started any of their last five games across all competitions.

Instead, Taty Castellanos has been tasked with leading the line, and despite now having started three more games than Wilson, he still has one fewer goal.

Given the options that Wilson had in the winter to get regular football, West Ham certainly owe him an explanation as to why those deals were brushed over, if this was the plan for him moving forward.

Wilson will not be at West Ham next season

Regardless of the situation surrounding his contract, it’s highly unlikely that Wilson will be a West Ham player next season.

The Hammers are almost certain to bring in at least one new striker, while also potentially having Niclas Fullkrug back in the squad, depending on the deal at AC Milan.

Wilson will want to play regular football, given the stage in his career, and it has become very apparent very quickly that he will not get that with the Irons.
