West Ham: Mads Hermansen’s contract examined after London Stadium turnaround
West Ham United have finally seen the best of Mads Hermansen in recent weeks and months.
The Denmark international came in at the London Stadium as a highly anticipated signing from Leicester City.
The Foxes may have been relegated in his last season there, but he certainly made a positive impression as a Premier League goalkeeper.
That prompted the Hammers to make a move and take him from the King Power to East London, but things didn’t start well.
The shot stopper has certainly improved recently, and now we assess what we know about Hermansen’s deal at West Ham.

What is Mads Hermansen’s contract situation at West Ham?
The 25-year-old moved to E20 and looked like he’d never played at the top level in his initial outings with the Irons.
That ultimately prompted him to be replaced by Alphonse Areola as the number one, a decision which has since flipped the other way.
| Stat (Premier League 25/26) | Mads Hermansen | Alphonse Areola |
| Appearances | 15 | 20 |
| Clean sheets | 6 | 0 |
| Goals conceded | 24 | 37 |
Nuno Espirito Santo has been rolling with the Dane in goal, and it’s safe to say that he is helping to get the best from the keeper.
He has helped the Hammers in their efforts to avoid relegation, but even if they do drop into the Championship, his contract is in place until 2030.
The ex-Brondby man put pen to paper on a five-year deal in the summer and reportedly earns a £45,000 weekly salary and £2.3million per year for the year.
Hermansen has proven to be worth that for West Ham recently, even if relegation could still be in the pipeline in East London.
Could Hermansen leave West Ham in the summer?
The keeper already has a history of being relegated from the Premier League before immediately jumping ship.
He did exactly that with Leicester City before joining the Irons, and there may be concerns he could do that if Nuno’s side face the drop this summer.
That feels increasingly unlikely, given his contract at the London Stadium is already in a good place and he also represents an excellent option for the Championship.

He kept 13 clean sheets with the Foxes in his last second-tier spell, so he could utilise another year down there to continue his development.
Hermansen needs to be seen as the long-term number one for the Irons, so losing him in the summer would certainly be a blow.
