West Ham interest in Natan makes perfect sense, they can’t afford to miss out

West Ham United are interested in Real Betis centre-back Natan, according to reports.

Natan has impressed at the LaLiga side since joining from Napoli in August 2024, and multiple Premier League clubs are now circling for his signature ahead of the summer.

Fortunately for his potential suitors, Betis need to balance their books before June 30 and have therefore identified the 25-year-old as capable of raising substantial funds.

The defender has been a regular for the Spaniards and is likely to move on at the end of the campaign, with Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Brentford also keen.

Nuno Espirito Santo wants to improve his West Ham squad, and snapping up Natan before the Irons’ rivals will put his side in good standing for the future.

What are West Ham’s chances of signing Natan?

While West Ham have long held an interest in Natan, they face a stern fight to lure him to the London Stadium, especially with so many of their top-flight peers closely watching him.

That is according to Wednesday’s edition of ABC Sevilla, who have covered the four-way tussle in great detail. Clearly, then, Nuno must prepare to move on from the target.

Betis are aware of Bournemouth’s stance, and the Cherries look to have the early edge. But the Spanish outfit also expect other clubs with greater riches to make a move soon.

Natan is valued at just shy of £35m and may therefore be out of West Ham’s price range. It is also unclear whether any of his other suitors will be willing to stump up that amount.

But judging by his statistics this season, the Hammers must continue to push hard.

West Ham also want OH Leuven defensive giant Roggerio Nyakossi, and may be forced to choose between the duo as they draw up their transfer plans over the coming weeks.

How has Natan performed this season?

Natan has made 26 appearances in LaLiga so far this term, starting each of them and helping Betis to keep seven clean sheets as they look to seal a Europa League spot.

During that spell, he has made 29 tackles, 31 interceptions, 81 recoveries and 182 clearances, while also blocking 16 shots, making him an indispensable talisman for Betis.

Or maybe not, if new reports about his future are to be believed. There is already a queue of clubs knocking on his door, and West Ham would do well to elbow their way to the front.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo have impressed in East London this campaign, but Natan promises to elevate the Hammers’ defensive game to a new level.

It is just a shame that half of the Premier League have seemingly realised it, too.
