West Ham have perfect chance to scout Santiago Gimenez after AC Milan return

West Ham United have been previously linked with AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez, who has recently returned from an ankle injury.

The Mexican has been out of action since the beginning of November, with the forward undergoing surgery to correct the issue.

For much of the season, when available, the 24-year-old has struggled to impress the Rossoneri, prompting the Serie A side to be open to a sale.

Due to that injury, the Hammers have had little time to truly watch him.

However, ahead of a potential transfer to West Ham, the E20 outfit’s recruitment team could now have the ideal opportunity to see if he would be a good fit.

Why West Ham now have perfect scouting mission for Santiago Gimenez

Gimenez started the season for AC Milan by scoring just once in 11 appearances, but the striker has put his poor form down to feeling constant pain due to an ankle issue.

As relayed by Calciomercato, the Mexican forward is now feeling back to his best after returning for the Milan-based club just before the international break.

Now, there are no excuses for Gimenez in terms of his output, and it gives the scouts at West Ham the perfect chance to watch him in action.

There are eight games left in the Serie A season for Gimenez to make an impact with the Rossoneri six points behind league leaders Inter.

If the Hammers remain interested in the striker, they may not want him to finish the season too strongly, as Massimiliano Allegri could opt to keep him instead.

However, as it stands, Gimenez is on his way out, with the aforementioned report stating AC Milan will listen to offers around £26million.

However, previous suggestions stated West Ham could agree to a loan deal for Gimenez.

Santiago Gimenez’ Eredivisie stint will pique West Ham’s interest

Although life at the San Siro has not gone well for Gimenez, the striker has had previous success in the Eredivise.

In recent years, the Hammers have also had success of their own when signing players from that league.

Mohammed Kudus, although not much of a fan favourite anymore, turned out to be an excellent signing after moving from Ajax.

Additionally, Edson Alvarez impressed during this first season at London Stadium.

Overall, it appears that players who excel in the Netherlands also tend to have a good spell for the Irons.
