West Ham have Mateus Fernandes example to follow as Crysencio Summerville exit discount mooted
West Ham United could face an exodus of talent if they are relegated, and winger Crysencio Summerville will no doubt be one of the first names to leave.
The impact of relegation will have far more consequences than just financial implications, as the Hammers squad will likely be targeted by stronger teams.
Despite the Irons being in the relegation battle, they do hold plenty of quality players. The likes of Mateus Fernandes, Jarrod Bowen and Summerville will not want to stick around for Championship football.
Reports have since emerged of various interested parties in Summerville, and there have been suggestions that relegation could provide a discount.
However, ahead of West Ham’s next transfer window, they already have multiple examples of why they should not settle for a reduced valuation, with one of them close to home.

What examples do West Ham have for Crysencio Summerville’s potential exit?
With news via Tutto Atatanta, Summerville is currently valued at £26million, but if the Irons get relegated, that figure could “nosedive”.
Suggestions of this value or even that the Hammers could accept a reduced fee seem ridiculous considering the current state of the transfer market.
| Crysencio Summerville’s West Ham timeline | Date |
| Summerville joins for £25m plus add-ons | 3 August 2024 |
| Winger scores first West Ham goal in 2-1 win vs Man United | 27 October 2024 |
| Dutchman picks up long-term hamstring injury | 10 January 2025 |
| Summerville returns from injury to face Nottingham Forest | 31 August 2025 |
| 24-year-old scores first goal of the season vs QPR | 11 January 2026 |
| Summerville sustains another hamstring blow | 9 March 2026 |
Relegation in previous seasons has not always seen prices drop for players.
At Everton, they learned about fate when they had to fork out a £40m package to secure the signing of Tyler Dibling, who had been relegated with Southampton.
Additionally, West Ham know all too well that high fees for Championship assets can come about. In the summer, the Hammers agreed a £42m package for Fernandes, also from the Saints.
So if Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are to go down, there is every reason as to why the E20 outfit could still ask for a larger fee to sell Summerville.
After all, the winger does hold a contract until 2029.

Who is interested in signing Crysencio Summerville from West Ham?
If a sale for Summerville is to happen and the West Ham board agree to sanction it, there would be no shortage of suitors.
The same report as above mentions that Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Everton, Napoli, Atalanta, Tottenham, Brentford, Olympique Marseille and Villarreal all hold vested interest.
In this case, supply and demand must be followed. The winger is clearly wanted by numerous parties, and the Irons can use this to their advantage.
Accepting a discounted fee when the potential for a bidding war is on the horizon would be an inept decision.
Hopefully, the Hammers stay up, and talk of the Dutchman leaving will be nipped in the bud anyway.
Summerville will be key for West Ham’s survival chances this season, and his return from injury cannot come soon enough.
