West Ham given instant Jarrod Bowen exit answer after Premier League relegation

West Ham United skipper Jarrod Bowen has made it clear what he intends to do following his side’s relegation from the Premier League.

Bowen was on the scoresheet on Sunday afternoon as West Ham saw off Leeds United 3-0 at the London Stadium.

However, that win on the final day of the season was not enough to save the Irons as Tottenham beat Everton 1-0 to stay up instead.

It means West Ham will play in the second tier next season for the first time in 14 years, with a number of big-name stars set to move on.

Bowen has inevitably been linked with a West Ham exit, and he has now directly responded to talk over his future.

Bowen has not had his finest season, though nor is he to blame for the East London club’s plight.

As captain, however, he unfortunately has to carry the weight of this relegation for the rest of his career.

The England international, who will not be going to the World Cup this summer, cut a dejected figure at full-time against Leeds.

Bowen is one of a number of West Ham players tipped to leave, with Mateus Fernandes another who looks destined to quit.

However, the 29-year-old did not give the impression he intends on going anywhere this summer – quite the opposite, in fact – when asked directly by Sky Sports after the game.

“I’m under contract here,” he said. “I’ve been here six-and-a-half years and had some really high moments, but this is a low moment that will outweigh everything.

“There’ll be rumours and talk, nonsense out there, but ultimately what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League and where it deserves to be.”

Of course, the decision may be out of Bowen’s hands should West Ham feel the need to cash in on their biggest asset, but the fact he is not angling for a move is a massive positive.

James Corden may have come up with ideal Bowen plan

It is worth remembering that Bowen is under contract with West Ham until 2030, so the Irons are not under pressure to cash in in that regard.

However, the Irons are about to take a mammoth financial hit and there is no doubt some big names need to be sold.

But as celebrity West Ham fan James Corden recently stated, it could be worth David Sullivan asking Bowen to take a pay cut for the next 12 months.

Bowen’s wages could then be justified and he will have the chance to right the wrongs of this season by guiding the Hammers back, before returning to his current salary.

If West Ham fail to go up next season, which is not even worth thinking about, then there is no doubt the former Hereford man will move on.

The ball is very much in West Ham’s court with this one, but Bowen has made his stance clear.
